Bring your project with a Leaf on it or Leaf/leaves design to celebrate the coming of fall

The Back to School Project was a success.  We collected 17 hats, 1 scarf, 3 sweaters, 2 sweatshirts with knit inserts, and 1 ski headband.  These items were donated to Christ Child Society for their September disbursement of clothing items for needy children of our area.  Christ Child Society is located on Thomas Street in South Bend, Indiana.  Each child is given a complete new outfit from the inside out.  Underwear, socks, to winter coat.  Our contributions were well received.  It was very busy the day I stopped in to drop off our donation.  I had hoped to snap a picture, but everyone was just too busy to take time for a photo shoot.

Thanks to everyone that came to the Charity Knit and also knitted through out the year to make these items to donate.  Click on the picture to enlarge.

October (10/16/03) General Meeting will be at the home of Shirley Birkey.  The project for October is "Thread Lace".  Charlene Shafer of the Knit Knack shop has some great afghan patterns that incorporate this technique.  Not up for a afghan, check your knitting machine manual and stitch pattern book.  You may want to make curtains, table runner, vest or sweater.  Thread Lace is a variation of a fairisle pattern.  Instead of using two colors, you are knitting with similar color yarn.  However, one yarn is considerably thinner then the other, this is what creates the lace look.

November (11/20/2003) General Meeting will be at the home of Shirley Resnik.   Bring a "plating" project.  Plating allows you to use two threads again.  One yarn is your surface yarn and the other is the back/under yarn.  This is often used when using a scratchy yarn as a "surface" yarn.  The back/under yarn is on the inside of the garment and gives you a more comfortable garment.  Also plating can beef up a thinner yarn to give you more body.  Another use is to blend colors.  Give plating a try and bring your projects  and notes to share.

December - NO GENERAL MEETING - Happy Holidays!

This afghan was knitted for the Trinity School 2003 Silent Auction.  It brought a bid of $100.  It was a popular item and an additional afghan was knitted for a second individual that was willing to donate her $100 too.
