Shirley
Birkey made her "Modified Drop Shoulder" sweater out of two stands of 2/24 on
her standard bed machine. She made eyelets columns than wove green ribbon
through them to create stems for the flowers and leaves that she embroidered on
the sweater fronts.
Jackie
made this sideways knit child's sweater from Diana Burns pattern. She
donated the sweater for our 2006 charity collection.
Jackie
made an adult size sweater for herself from the same pattern. She marked
the center front and cut it and added front bands using the "cut & sew" method.
Shirley
Reznik completed her "Modified Drop Shoulder" sweater and is receiving numerous
complements. Great Job - Love your color choice Shirley!
Project/Demonstration
Pam demonstrated a "mock basket weave" technique that can be used on ALL machines. No Ribber or G-Carriage required.
A simple container cover was made to demonstrate the technique.
The technique as is follows:
Cast on required number of stitches for your project. Check to make sure the total number works out so you can use the 3x1 set up comb and NOT engage any end needles.
You will set you machine up so that needles in the most forward position will stay in HOLD until you reassign them.
Using the 3x1 set up comb (making sure end needles are always knitting) three needles knit and 1 needle holds across the bed - knit three rows.
Take your one prong tool or latch tool and grab the original stitch on the needle. Push the needle back dropping the loops off and to the front (knit) side of your work. Hang the original stitch in the hook of the needle and knit one row.
Off set the next set of 3 needles knitting and 1 needle holding so that it stacks in the middle of the first set. Knit three rows, grab the original stitches as before and when all loops are dropped knit one row.
Repeat this process until desired length.
I seamed my rectangle to create a cylinder. Made a circular bottom by short rowing. The two pieces were joined (wrong sides together) by using the pie crust method.

It's not to early to start thinking about Charity Knitting Projects. We all have 'yarn stashes' with good intensions. I know, I am doing an inventory of ALL my yarn at this time. If you have partial cones, consider a hat, scarf or small slippers as a project that will reduce your stash and give someone else warmth. If you make it, I'll find a home for it and you will have room for even more yarn! So get those machines running! Been a while since you knitted? Check your sponge bar and if you need help replacing bent or broken needles, let me know....Pam
