Extra! Extra! Read All About It! There was a great article written in the Lifestyles section of the South Bend Tribune on December 16th about Mary Nordstrom. It spoke of her lavish Christmas parties and the wonderful gifts of 'sweaters' that her guest receive from her. It featured her in her knitting room with her current passion of 'felted hats' behind her.
Show-N-Tell October Road Trip to Knitting Today Pam finished her Thread Lace and Bead Trimmed Sweater. Made on the Bulky Knitting Machine Geri is busy knitting a multi directional scarf by hand
Geri also brought along her Charity Knit items, since she didn't make it to the September meeting. Two hats and scarves along with a baby blanket.
Shirley brought her collection of hats she has been knitting for gifts
Lizard Ridge Charity Knitting Project. Squares are knitted in this "bumpy" texture than joined together to make Afghans for Afghans. The yarn used is Noro Kureyon which gives these ribbons of color due to the way it is dyed. Leann demonstrated a short row technique on the mid gauge machine which mimics the same hand knitting texture. To learn more about this charity project visit: http://threefates.wordpress.com/lizard-ridge-charity-knitting-project/ November Shirley combined hand and machine knitting when making this two tone pink hat & scarf set with knit flowers. Shirley hand strung all these bead before she hand knit this hat with the zig zag pattern. After dissecting the hat we determined that the beads could be knitted in while using the knitting machine to speed up the knitting time.
December Geri made small mitten ornament from left over sock yarns.
Geri loves to work with wool and it shows in this great felted purse. She knitted in a tab on the inside to accept a magnetic snap closure to keep everything inside. Shirley is still on a mission in December with more hats and scarves.
Pam took the lead from Shirley in November and pulled yarn from her stash to knit up mittens on a string, hat, scarf and slippers for one of seven children of a co-worker. Teresa posed so that dad could take a picture with her decked out in all her new jewel toned goodies. The white dots on the bottom of her slippers is 'puff paint'. I added this to keep her from slipping and falling down.
